Brian is a Senior Lecturer in the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs where he teaches classes in government and nonprofit communication, environmental communication and debate. He is starting his 10th year as the director of debate at Indiana University and his 21st year as a member of the debate community. His coaching career includes leading teams to outrounds at every major national tournament in both high school and college. While he was a graduate student at Wake Forest University and then Kansas University the two programs won the National Debate Tournament. He is the 2018-2019 American Debate Association Coach of the year. He was a three time qualifier to the National Debate Tournament.
